SECURTEK PIONEERS TEAM UP TO HOLD CHILD ID CLINIC TO KICK OFF NATIONAL BLOCK PARENT WEEK IN YORKTON
October, 2004 - On Sunday, October 24th the Yorkton Block Parent® Association, SecurTek Pioneers and the Yorkton Dairy Queen teamed up to hold a free child ID clinic aimed at protecting Yorkton’s youth. The local event was a great kick-off to National Block Parent® Week (Oct. 24th to 30th).
The SecurTek Pioneers, Pat Popik, President of Yorkton’s Block Parent® Association, the Yorkton Terriers Hockey Club and Yorkton Mayor, Phil Devos all were in attendance at the Yorkton Dairy Queen to help make the event a complete success.
Over sixty five children came out to have their fingerprints taken by the Pioneers, one of the steps in completing their kit. Once their fingerprints were taken, each participant received a free ice cream cone courtesy of Dairy Queen as well as other goodies provided by the Block Parent® Association. The kits were sent home with the child’s parents to be completed by filling in the child’s information, inserting a current photo and a DNA sample. When complete, the kits provide investigators all the information they need in order to start their search if the child was to ever go missing.
In addition to donating free cones, Dairy Queen also donated 10% of the day’s sales and 10% of the whole week’s sales to the Yorkton Block Parent® Association. Mark Butchko, owner of Dairy Queen, expects to contribute over $200 before October 30th.
The partnership between the SecurTek Pioneers and the Yorkton Block Parent® Association is off to a great start. We hope to hold many more community oriented events aimed at making our communities safer places to live, work and raise families.
