SASKATOON RCMP INTRODUCE VERIFIED RESPONSE

March 10, 2004 - Beginning April 2, 2004, Saskatoon RCMP servicing the rural areas east of Saskatoon including Colonsay, Hanley, and Vonda, are implementing a verified response policy. With the verified response policy, Saskatoon RCMP will now respond to burglar alarms only if two separate monitored zones are activated and an attempt to verify the alarm is unsuccessful. No change has been made to the response for hold-up signals and panic alarms. RCMP will also respond if criminal activity has been verified by a keyholder or alternate responder or by audio or video communication.

The RCMP response policy will affect how SecurTek currently responds to alarms in the following manner. When we receive a single signal from a premise, we will continue to call the site to confirm whether it is a valid or false alarm. If we receive no response at the premise, we will attempt to contact one of the keyholders we have been provided with and request that they visually confirm the premise has been breached. If confirmation is received we will dispatch the police. When we receive two separate signals we will continue to call the site to confirm whether it is a valid or false alarm. If we receive no response at the premise, we will dispatch the police. Therefore it is important that customers keep their keyholder information up to date and ensure these keyholders know their individual pass codes. If you need to update your keyholder information or are unsure of the pass codes for your keyholders, please contact the Monitoring Station at 1-877-777-7591.

For alternate ways to ensure response, contact your dealer to discuss the option and costs of adding additional contacts in your home to increase the probability of two monitoring zones being triggered if a break in occurs.

To help reduce false alarms:

  • Stay by the phone if you accidentally set off your alarm.
  • Ensure all doors and windows are closed and locked prior to arming your system.
  • Ensure objects such as decorations are not hung near air conditioners or vents, which could cause them to move and set off motion sensors.
  • Ensure arming delay is set for a reasonable period.
  • Replace back-up battery every 3-5 years.
