REGINA POLICE INTRODUCE NEW FALSE ALARM POLICY

March 9, 2004 - Approved by City Council yesterday, Regina Police are implementing a new false alarm policy affecting all Regina residents. Effective April 1, fines will be implemented for police response to false alarms. The first two false alarms Regina Police attend each year are at no charge. There will now be an $80 false alarm fine charged to the homeowner for the third and fourth false alarm per 365 day period. After four false alarms in a 365 day period, the police will no longer be first responders.

SecurTek responds to alarms in Regina in the following manner. When we receive a signal from a premise, we call the site to confirm whether it is a valid or false alarm. If we receive no response at the premises after three attempts or an incorrect pass word is given, we will dispatch police. We will then attempt to contact one of the keyholders we have been provided with and request that they meet police at the site.

Guard Service is an alarm response option we offer to our customers, where a guard will be dispatch to verify an alarm call before police are contacted. For more information, please see our Guard Service page.

To help reduce false alarms:

  • Stay by the phone if you accidentally set off your alarm.
  • Ensure all doors and windows are closed and locked prior to arming your system.
  • Ensure objects such as decorations are not hung near air conditioners or vents, which could cause them to move and set off motion sensors.
  • Ensure arming delay is set for a reasonable period.
  • Replace back-up battery every 3-5 years.
