SECURTEK PIONEERS ANNOUNCE AN $8,500 DONATION FOR MATERNITY WARD EQUIPMENT
Yorkton February 27 — SecurTek Pioneers today donated $8,500 to The Health Foundation toward the purchase of two sets of Bili Lights, used for phototherapy treatment of new born infants.
“This is a tremendously gratifying day for SecurTek and the Pioneers; we have been holding events and raising money for nearly a year for this project, and it is very satisfying to have reached our goal,” said Kristy Cmoc, Co-President of the SecurTek Pioneers. “These phototherapy lights will mean there is new and better treatment available, right here in our community, for babies with jaundice or other health issues”, continued Vicki Mack, Co-President.
“We are very grateful for the hard work the SecurTek Pioneers have put into raising these funds over the last year,” said Ross Fisher, Executive Director of The Health Foundation. “It was last spring we sat down to look at what equipment was needed for pediatrics and maternity; they made a choice and have steadily worked at raising money since then. They deserve the thanks of the community, this is equipment we need and it will make a difference to our local healthcare,” continued Mr. Fisher.
“When we met with Ross last year, we looked at a number of different pieces of medical equipment the hospital needs. Many of our members have young families, and we decided to raise funds for something our members knew would be important and could relate to. That’s why we chose equipment for the maternity department,” said Ms. Cmoc.
“What is really impressive here is that the SecurTek Pioneers completed this fundraising project in less than a year, and still continued to work on a number of other projects in the community. In addition to other work in the community the SecurTek Pioneers have contributed to the Recreational Therapy reading program for Alzheimer patients and seniors in the Yorkton and District Nursing Home. As well, the Pioneers regularly volunteer in the Hospital Gift Shoppe. Their community spirit is wonderful and really is to be commended,” said Mr. Fisher.
The SecurTek Pioneers raised the $8,500 for the phototherapy Bili Lights through a number of events, including: Buzz for Babies, Pie Day Friday, Easter Meet-and-Greet, a Mother’s Day raffle, Saskatchewan Highway Clean-up, a plant sale, an auction, a Christmas Bake sale, a Golf tournament and a Party in the Park.
The Bili Light phototherapy units have been ordered and are expected to be in use in the hospital within a few weeks.
